People who play a lot at the casino are known as big spenders, and they earn comps (free goods or services) for their play. These can include free hotel rooms, meals, tickets to shows and even limo service and airline tickets. However, some economists believe that the negative impact of gambling addiction on a community far outweighs any positive economic effects a casino might bring. Moreover, studies have shown that the money spent on treating problem gamblers and lost productivity from their families erodes any casino profits.
