A hand is a grouping of five cards in the game of poker that can be either the original two cards you were dealt or a combination of those cards with the community cards. A high hand is one that contains cards of equal rank or higher, while a straight is five consecutive cards of the same suit. A flush is a straight with a higher kicker card. A three of a kind is 3 matching cards of the same rank and 2 unmatched cards.
The first betting round in poker is known as the ante and is where each player must put in money before they see their cards. The dealer then deals three cards face up on the board which are called community cards that anyone can use. The second betting round is the flop and once that has happened, the third card is revealed on the turn and then finally the fifth and final card is shown on the river. This is the showdown round where the highest hand wins the pot.
